Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has commended the large voter turnout recorded in Saturday’s local government elections, describing it as a clear demonstration of public confidence in grassroots democracy.
After casting his vote at Udomi, Ward 2, Esan Central Local Government Area, the governor said the high level of participation reflected the determination of Edo residents to shape leadership at the local council level.

He noted that vibrant participation in the polls underscored the importance citizens attach to accountable local governance and community development.
Okpebholo also urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding as the electoral process concludes, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting credible elections.
The elections were conducted across Edo State’s 18 local government areas on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to elect chairmen and councillors for the state’s local councils.
