The Edo State Local Government Service Commission has ordered all Heads of Local Government Administration across the state’s 18 councils to proceed on compulsory leave.
Chairman of the commission, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, announced the directive on Wednesday, October 22, while addressing journalists after a review visit to the local government councils.
Adjoto explained that each affected officer must hand over responsibilities to the Director of Administrative and General Services in their respective councils.
“The Local Government Service Commission has reviewed the existing administrative framework across the 18 local government councils.
“Consequently, the commission hereby directs all Heads of Local Government Administration across the 18 local government councils to proceed on compulsory leave with effect from today (Wednesday),” he said.
According to him, the 30-day leave is necessary to enable a comprehensive review aimed at strengthening transparency, efficiency, and accountability at the grassroots level.

“The measure has become very necessary to allow for a thorough assessment for improved administrative operation at the local government level.
“It will ensure a fair and objective review of posting, staff deployment, and record management practices,” Adjoto said.
He added that the move aligns with the commission’s reform agenda and follows feedback received during its familiarisation tour.
“During the period of this compulsory leave, the Director of Administrative and General Services shall oversee the day-to-day administration of every local government,” he stated, advising all affected officers to comply fully.
Adjoto further disclosed that the ongoing digitalisation audit uncovered 382 shadow files and 132 retired files across the councils.
The chairman, who was sworn in by Governor Monday Okpebholo on August 16, reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning local government administration and ensuring that governance impacts rural communities effectively.
