Edo Queens narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League after losing the third-place match to Egypt’s FC Masar via a dramatic penalty shootout.
The match, played on Friday, ended in a goalless stalemate after 90 minutes, as neither side managed to break the deadlock.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, FC Masar emerged victorious with a 4-3 scoreline.
The decisive moment came when Olise C., stepping up for Edo Queens’ final kick, missed her effort, handing the Egyptian side the bronze medal.
Despite the disappointment, Edo Queens will still walk away with over N500 million in prize money for their fourth-place finish, a significant achievement for the Nigerian side in the continental competition.
The performance marks a historic run for Edo Queens in their debut CAF Women’s Champions League campaign, showcasing their resilience and earning them recognition on the African stage.
They will now turn their focus to domestic competitions as they seek to build on this experience.
