The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has praised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for using technology and digital innovations to strengthen its operations and tackle fraudulent activities.
Alausa spoke in Abuja when the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid him a courtesy visit, according to a post by the scheme on its X handle on Wednesday.
The minister applauded the NYSC leadership for the progress recorded under its current transformation efforts, particularly the introduction of technology into the registration and deployment of corps members.
“I would like to commend you for all the transformation that you have brought to NYSC and the use of technology to ensure seamless operations and deployment of Corps Members,” he said.
Alausa recalled that the scheme’s move to digitise its registration process initially attracted opposition from some members of the public. He, however, noted that the adoption of technology had substantially improved the process.

Speaking during the visit, Nafiu disclosed that the NYSC had upgraded the security features on corps members’ call-up and posting letters following attempts by fraudsters to duplicate the documents.
He explained that the cloned letters were being used to deceive prospective employers and extort money from unsuspecting corps members.
According to the NYSC boss, the strengthened security measures had made the documents more difficult to manipulate while allowing employers to verify their authenticity with greater ease.
Nafiu also revealed that a joint committee made up of representatives of the NYSC and the Federal Ministry of Education had been established to deepen cooperation between both institutions.
He said the committee would also work to ensure that participation in the National Youth Service Corps remained restricted to qualified and eligible Nigerian graduates.
