EFCC Arraigns Ex-CCT Boss Danladi Umar, Court Orders Remand

Former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre after his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged abuse of office.

Umar appeared before Justice Peter Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, on a four-count charge accusing him of using his office to confer undue advantage on himself.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Following his plea, EFCC prosecuting counsel, Christopher Mshelia, sought Umar’s remand, stating that the prosecution needed time to respond to the bail application filed by the defense.

The defense urged the court to hear the application, but Justice Kekemeke adjourned the matter until Wednesday, July 15, 2026, for the bail hearing.

The judge ordered that Umar remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his bail application.
