EFCC Arraigns Warri Archbishop Over Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Archbishop Angel Oyeghe, founder of Faith Healing Ministry, before Justice Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Oyeghe faces a two-count charge of conspiracy and naira abuse.

The charges follow an EFCC investigation into an incident at her church where members reportedly sprayed naira notes on a live cow during a religious ceremony.

The Commission considers the act a violation of currency management laws under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.

The arraignment marks a continuation of EFCC’s efforts to enforce financial regulations and deter the abuse of the national currency.

During preliminary proceedings, Oyeghe was not required to plead as the court scheduled the next hearing for the presentation of evidence.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about public figures and religious leaders flouting currency and financial regulations.

The EFCC has reiterated that violations of the CBN Act, including improper handling or misuse of the naira, carry significant legal consequences.

Court proceedings are ongoing, with the Commission expected to provide further evidence as the case progresses.
