The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Professor Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), over alleged misconduct and fraudulent activities.
Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday.
According to Oyewale, EFCC operatives raided Yusuf’s residence before taking him into custody. He is set to be arraigned on Thursday, 30th January 2025.
Yusuf’s troubles date back to a petition submitted during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him of fraud and financial mismanagement.
In 2019, Buhari dismissed him from office following a fact-finding panel’s recommendation, which found him culpable in the alleged mismanagement of ₦919 million.
