The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said that the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, is still in its custody.
Reports Friday morning claimed the anti-graft agency has freed Obiano.
But in its response, the EFCC through its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, told newsmen that Obiano was only transferred to Abuja from Lagos on Friday morning and not realeased as being purported.
The EFCC spokesman, meanwhile, did not reveal if Obiano is being held alongside his wife, Mrs Ebelechukwu.
The commission arrested the former governor Thursday night at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, around 08:30pm.
The EFCC said Obiano had been on its watch list since November 15, 2021, but has not been arrested due to his immunity as a governor.
However, on Thursday, while the former governor was about to board a flight to the United States in Lagos, the anti-gaft agency arrested him, and this Friday morning, transferred him to its office in Abuja.
