EFCC releases Cubana, as associates read ethnic coloration to ordeal

Popular Nigerian businessman and socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu, fondly called Obi Cubana, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to several reports gathered, the businessman was released on administrative bail.

The father of four had since taken to his Instagram page where he indicated about his release.

“Okpataozueora! I love you ALL!!❤❤❤❤❤. Unbroken. #manoftheyear2022,” he wrote.

The socialite was arrested on Monday, November 1, 2021, by the EFCC.

According to the report, his case was based on alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

“Obi Cubana was arrested and brought to the EFCC headquarters on Monday afternoon over allegations of money laundering and tax fraud. He is being grilled by detectives as we speak,” a source said.

The businessman made headlines earlier in the year after the burial of his late mother which was themed ‘The event of the year’.

Meanwhile, celebrity barman, Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, fondly called Cubana Chief Priest, has reacted to the arrest of his former boss, Obinna Iyiegbu, better known as Obi Cubana, by the EFCC.

The celebrity barman also took to his Instagram page to show support for Obi Cubana.

He noted that the Igbo are used to being victimised by the government.

Another socialite and prominent businessman, Alex Mascot, shared his thoughts about Obi Cubana’s arrest too.

“Hard Times make hard men. A man is measured, not by his achievements but by how expeditiously he bounces back from adversity. I feel your pain and stand by you,” he wrote.

Also, many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their views about the billionaire’s arrest. He is said to have been arrested for alleged money laundering and tax fraud.
