EFCC Withdraws Arrest Warrant Against Mercy Chinwo’s Ex-Manager

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the arrest warrant issued against Ezekiel Thankgod, the former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, who is accused of allegedly defrauding $345,000.

The warrant had been issued on January 16, 2025, by Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Lagos State High Court following an ex parte application filed by the EFCC.

The anti-graft agency sought to compel the music producer’s appearance in court to answer criminal charges.

However, during Friday’s court proceedings, EFCC counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari requested the withdrawal of the bench warrant, explaining that the charges had already been served on Mr. Thankgod’s lawyer, Monday Ubani, SAN, in open court. According to Buhari, the development rendered the warrant unnecessary.

Justice Owoeye granted the application, formally withdrawing the arrest warrant.

The case against Thankgod stems from allegations of financial misconduct involving $345,000, which the EFCC claims he fraudulently obtained.

With the charges now served, the case is expected to proceed to trial.

The withdrawal of the arrest warrant marks a pivotal moment in the case, as observers await the defense’s response to the allegations and subsequent legal proceedings.
