The Federal Road Safety Corps in Kwara State has deployed 950 officers, marshals, special marshals and first responders across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations as part of efforts to ensure safer highways and smooth traffic flow.
The deployment forms part of a special patrol operation scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Basambo, the operation includes the mobilisation of 16 patrol vehicles, four ambulances and a 70-tonne tow truck to strategic locations across the state.
Basambo explained that the initiative was designed to reduce road crashes, improve traffic management and guarantee prompt emergency response during the festive period.
He disclosed that the Sector Commander, Kabiru Kazeem, directed the strategic deployment of personnel to major highways, urban centres and traffic-prone areas within Ilorin and other parts of the state.
“The deployment is aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, ensuring prompt rescue response, clearing obstructions and improving traffic flow throughout the festive period,” Basambo stated.
The command also said it would intensify public awareness campaigns at motor parks, markets, religious centres and other public places to educate motorists and commuters on road safety measures.
Kazeem warned drivers against violating traffic regulations during the celebration, stressing that enforcement activities would be strengthened on major roads across the state.

He listed offences that would attract sanctions to include speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, tyre violations, route violations, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, seatbelt violations and carrying passengers alongside goods.
“The objective of this operation is not only enforcement but also the protection of lives and property during the festive season,” the sector commander said.
He added that ambulances and heavy-duty towing equipment had been positioned to ensure rapid emergency response and quick removal of broken-down vehicles obstructing highways.
Kazeem further urged motorists to exercise caution and obey all traffic regulations during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
“Only the living celebrate,” he warned.
