Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji, On October 16, 2022, took the oath of office as governor of Ekiti State.
This came as the state former governor, Kayode Fayemi, officially exited office today (Sunday.
At precisely 12:53 pm, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, Chief Judge of Ekiti State, administered the oath of office to him, to the applause of the sizable number of people in attendance.
He made a commitment to preserve, safeguard, and defend the office of governor while wearing a white agbada and a matching cream cap.
The Chief Judge of Ekiti State also administered the oath of office to Oyebanji’s deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye. She swore to serve at precisely 12:46 PM.
Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, as well as Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, and Simon Lalong, the governor of Plateau State, are among the dignitaries in attendance.
Among the others are the governors of Lagos (Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu), Edo (Gov. Godwin Obaseki), Jigawa (Gov. Abubakar Badaru), Ogun (Gov. Dapo Abiodun), and Kebbi (Gov. Atiku Bagudu).
Fayemi and Ayodele Fayose, as well as the governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola were present for the inauguration at the Ekiti Parapo Pavillion.
The outgoing Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, the Speaker of the Ekiti Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye, and the former Chief of the Defense Staff, Gabriel Olonsakin, are also included. The Minister of Trade, Industry, and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the former Chief of Army Staff, Azubike Iherijika, the Deputy Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Alabi, who represented Oyetola, and the Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi.
Before resigning to accept the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket, ex-SSG turned governor Oyebanji was the Secretary to the State Governor under the Fayemi government.
The governor, born in Ikogosi, Ekiti, is known for his grassroots politics.
