El-Rufai Appears in Kaduna Court, Comments On ADC Convention

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings resumed in his ongoing trial brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Footage shared by ARISE NEWS showed El-Rufai dressed in traditional Agbada attire as he made his way through a crowded courthouse corridor filled with supporters, lawyers, and spectators.

Shortly before entering the courtroom, he was seen engaging in a brief conversation with an associate regarding the African Democratic Congress national convention scheduled for Tuesday.

“So tomorrow is our convention, right?” El-Rufai asked.

“Insha Allah (God willing),” the associate responded.

The exchange underscored the former governor’s continued involvement in political activities despite facing multiple corruption-related charges.

El-Rufai is standing trial alongside Amadu Sule on several allegations, including abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

In a separate case at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, he is facing a 10-count charge also filed by the ICPC, which includes allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud involving ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million.

He has consistently denied all allegations levelled against him.

Since returning from Cairo, Egypt, on February 12, 2026, the former governor has been engaged in ongoing legal proceedings. He was initially taken into custody by the EFCC before being transferred to the ICPC.

He was later granted compassionate release to attend his mother’s burial before returning to custody.

The Federal High Court in Kaduna had earlier fixed April 14 for his bail hearing, a date coinciding with the ADC national convention.

The case developments come amid allegations by the ADC that El-Rufai is being subjected to political persecution through judicial processes, claims the ruling All Progressives Congress has dismissed.
