The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has given Defence Minister Christopher Musa seven days to prove his allegation that the former governor deliberately planned killings in Southern Kaduna or retract the claim and apologise.
The ultimatum, issued on Monday, September 7, 2026, followed Musa’s September 3 appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he criticised El-Rufai’s record on security and communal relations during his 2015–2023 tenure.
Musa alleged that El-Rufai deepened divisions in Kaduna and deliberately planned the killing of people in Southern Kaduna.
The family, in a statement signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, rejected the allegation and demanded credible evidence to support it.

It said Musa must either substantiate the claim within seven days or withdraw it and apologise publicly through the same platform where he made the allegation.
The family warned that failure to comply could trigger legal action.
The dispute comes amid a history of deadly communal violence in Southern Kaduna, where repeated attacks have claimed lives, displaced residents and destroyed property.
While Musa has linked the former administration to the region’s divisions and security challenges, the specific allegation that El-Rufai deliberately planned killings remains contested.
The family’s ultimatum has now put the burden on the Defence Minister to either produce evidence or face possible legal proceedings over the allegation.
