El-Rufai’s Exit Will Trigger APC Implosion — Ologbondiyan

Former PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will collapse following the defection of ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Speaking on Tuesday, March 11, during Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Ologbondiyan described El-Rufai as a key figure in the APC and argued that his resignation would destabilise the ruling party.

“There will be an implosion in President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s party, the APC, and anybody in doubt of that should look at what has happened with El-Rufai’s resignation.

“El-Rufai is a founding machine in the All Progressives Congress, and if a founding machine can leave the party, you can imagine what’s going to follow,” he said.

El-Rufai announced his defection from the APC on Monday, March 10, 2025, citing the party’s internal dysfunction and disregard for its members.

“There is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party,” he said in a statement.

Ologbondiyan also urged the media to strengthen opposition parties and resist the culture of silence.

“Let us find a way to embolden the opposition because, without opposition, there is no democracy,” he said.

On discussions of a possible coalition, he said the PDP had yet to make a decision but hinted that one of the party’s warring factions, either that of Atiku Abubakar or Nyesom Wike, would join the alliance.
