The Emir of Dutse, Dr. Hameem Nuhu, has taken disciplinary action against two traditional leaders in Jigawa State over alleged breaches of Emirate Council rules, reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to accountability and the preservation of traditional values.
In a statement released Wednesday evening by the Secretary of the Dutse Emirate Council, Amadu Malami, the District Head of Kadangare, Ibrahim Adamu, was suspended for alleged negligence of official property and permitting the controversial Dodo carnival on land under his jurisdiction — a practice explicitly banned by the Emirate Council.
“The suspension was due to the district head’s failure to adhere to the council’s rules and take care of official property,” the council said.
In a related development, Amadu Iliya, the Ward Head of Lautai in Kiyawa District, was dismissed from office after he was found guilty of mortgaging a government-owned farm and collecting excessive fees from the land — actions deemed as clear violations of public trust.
The Emirate Council condemned both actions, stating they constituted conduct unbecoming of traditional rulers.
“The Emir warned all traditional leaders under the emirate to desist from anything capable of tarnishing the image of the emirate and reiterated that anyone who failed to uphold the dignity of his position would be punished accordingly,” the statement added.

Malami reiterated that the law banning the Dodo carnival remains in full effect, and any leader who allows its organisation would be held accountable.
The council emphasised that traditional leaders have a sworn responsibility to protect public assets and act in line with the values of the Emirate Council.
“This serves as a clear warning to others,” Malami said. “Traditional leadership must embody integrity and protect the sanctity of their office.”
The move is part of the Emirate’s broader effort to strengthen governance and maintain discipline within the traditional institution.
