Emir Sanusi Urges Security Forces: Focus on Real Culprits, Not Minors

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on security forces to target the actual instigators behind the August 1 #Endbadgovernance protests nationwide, rather than detaining innocent minors.

Sanusi voiced his concerns during his visit on the 6th of November, 2024, to the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in Kano, where the recently freed minors are undergoing rehabilitation.

“Many of them are students who go to school. They were picked up in the streets not in the middle of the violent act.”

“It is sad that they received this treatment. But we thanked the presidency and federal government for intervening and bringing an end to their difficulties. If this had continued, I am sure many of them would have lost their lives.”

The Emir emphasized the need for authorities to concentrate on the adults responsible for inciting the unrest. He noted that although the riot occurred in Kano and the identities of those involved are documented, some have remained free and active, even in Abuja, while the minors have been held in custody.

“We hope that in the interest of justice when things of this nature happen, we will identify the real culprits and arrest them and try them rather than innocent children,” he said.

The Emir however extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Abba Yusuf, and others who supported the minors’ release, praising the efforts of compassionate individuals who contributed to freeing the detainees.
