The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Restitution and Inquiry, set up to investigate cases of police brutality, especially involving officers of the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, has awarded a petitioner, identified as Marc Chidibere Nwadi, a sum of N7.5 million after the petitioner complained that he spent six years in prison without trial.
According to Nwadi, his long stay in prison was because he could not offer a bribe.
Doris Okuwobi, who is the chairperson of the panel, delivered the judgment on Friday, as she upheld that the petitioner excessively suffered in the hands of police officers.
Okuwobi also presented a cheque of N7.5 million to the petitioner on behalf of the state government thereafter.
