Former APC interim chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, has claimed that the #EndSARS protests of 2020 were orchestrated by the “Obidients” to derail President Bola Tinubu’s political aspirations.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Edmund Obilo, Akande alleged that the movement was not just a campaign against police brutality but was designed abroad to block Tinubu’s rise.

“The Obidients, not Peter Obi, were behind #EndSARS. It was manufactured from America and brought in just to stop him,” he stated.

He further claimed that the movement initially aimed to form a political party but failed to do so.

First News recalls that the #EndSARS protests sought to end police brutality, particularly targeting the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

However, the movement faced a violent crackdown, leading to the deaths of several protesters.

Despite the protests, Tinubu eventually won the 2023 presidential election, although he suffered a historic defeat in Lagos, largely attributed to the Obidient movement’s influence.
