England Rally Past DR Congo As Kane Strikes Twice

England staged a dramatic second-half comeback to defeat the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 and book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Three Lions were stunned early in the contest after Cipenga B. fired DR Congo into the lead in the sixth minute, giving the African side a deserved 1-0 advantage and putting England under pressure.

Despite dominating possession for long spells, England struggled to find a breakthrough as the Congolese defence stood firm for much of the encounter.

However, captain Harry Kane turned the game around in spectacular fashion. The Bayern Munich striker restored parity in the 75th minute before completing the comeback with an emphatic finish into the roof of the net in the 86th minute to hand England a 2-1 lead.

Kane’s late heroics ensured England progressed to the last eight, while DR Congo’s impressive World Cup journey came to an end despite their spirited performance.

The brace further highlighted Kane’s importance to the Three Lions, with the prolific forward once again delivering on the biggest stage to keep England’s hopes of lifting the World Cup alive.
