Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has expressed doubts about Chelsea’s prospects for the ongoing Premier League season, predicting that the club will finish 7th in the league.
Speaking on beIN Sports as a pundit during the analysis of the Premier League opening game between Manchester United and Fulham, Mikel shared his concerns about Chelsea’s ability to secure victories.
“I don’t think they will win many games, and I expect a tough season for the team,” Mikel stated.
He pointed to the challenges facing Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s new manager, who is stepping into a situation he has not encountered before.
“I’m curious to see how Enzo Maresca will manage the team as he hasn’t been in such a situation before,” Mikel added.
However, Mikel did suggest that Chelsea’s fortunes could change if they manage to sign a prolific striker.
“If Chelsea can find a striker who can score goals, they might finish higher than 7th,” he noted.
He emphasized the potential impact of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, saying, “I have said it before, Osimhen is a player who could make a difference for the team.”
Despite these suggestions, Mikel remains uncertain about Chelsea’s upcoming season.
“In all, I am uncertain about Chelsea’s upcoming season and am waiting to see how things unfold,” he concluded.
Mikel’s prediction adds to the ongoing debate about Chelsea’s potential performance this season, with many fans and analysts eagerly watching how the team will fare under new management.
