Former Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela, has lost two of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road crash along the Bauchi-Azare Road.
The siblings died on Saturday, July 4, 2026, while traveling from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area, to Bauchi.
They sustained fatal injuries when the vehicle conveying them was involved in the accident. Their bodies were later taken to a hospital in Bauchi, where doctors confirmed their deaths.
Reacting to the tragedy, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful blow to the Tela family and Bauchi State.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor conveyed the condolences of the state government and the people of Bauchi to the former deputy governor and his family.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, strengthen the bereaved family in their moment of grief, and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The governor also sympathized with other victims of the crash and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
