The Former DSS Director-General, Lawal Daura, has announced his intention to run for governor of Katsina State in the 2027 elections, citing concerns over the current administration’s handling of security and governance.
Speaking to DCL Hausa on Tuesday, the 6th of January, 2026, Daura revealed that he has completed consultations regarding the party platform he plans to contest under, which he will disclose in the near future.
He criticised the incumbent government, questioning the rationale of seeking re-election after what he described as underperformance.
Using a metaphor, Daura emphasised that leaders should step aside when they can no longer manage responsibilities effectively.

“It is like putting a load on somebody and adjusting it. If he complains that the load is too heavy, you have to take it down to avoid destroying fragile items. For the current administration, we can say thank you for your efforts, but you should take a break because you can’t continue,” he said.
Reflecting on his move into politics, Daura admitted that contesting was not something he had initially envisioned.
“I never saw myself coming out to contest. I have always participated from behind the scenes,” he added.
