The Eze Ndigbo in Ibadan and Yorubaland, Chief James Oramadike, has extended his condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde, the people of Ibadan, and the royal family over the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died last Monday at the age of 90.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, Oramadike described the late monarch as a symbol of unity, wisdom, and strength, noting that his absence would be deeply felt across Ibadanland and beyond.
“The passing of Oba Olakulehin is a significant loss to the people of Ibadan,” he said.
“I pray that God grants his family, the people of Ibadan, and all those who knew him the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
Oba Olakulehin’s transition came just days before the first anniversary of his coronation, marking the end of a brief but impactful reign.
Chief Oramadike also lauded the unique and time-tested rotational succession system of the Olubadan stool, which alternates between the Otun and Balogun lines of royal lineage. He commended the system for its ability to ensure a seamless and peaceful transfer of traditional power.

He pointed out that by the customary order of ascension, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the current Otun Olubadan, is next in line to become the 44th Olubadan, being the most senior chief on the Otun line.
“This model of succession is one that other kingdoms in Nigeria should emulate to avoid disputes and crises over royal succession,” Oramadike noted.
The Igbo leader also praised Ladoja’s inclusive leadership style during his tenure as governor of Oyo State, particularly in fostering peaceful coexistence between the indigenous people of Ibadan and the Igbo community, as well as other non-indigenous residents.
He pledged the continued support of the Igbo community for the growth and progress of Ibadanland, promising that their cooperation would remain unwavering in all developmental efforts.
Oba Olakulehin’s passing has continued to draw tributes from traditional leaders, political figures, and residents across Oyo State, who described him as a unifying father figure with a legacy of peace and dignity.
