Former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, has petitioned the Nigerian Senate, demanding the reinstatement of suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In her correspondence, she urged the Senate to put an end to what she called the “scandalous misappropriation of public office powers to break laws and breach the nation’s Constitution.” She pressed lawmakers to prove that Nigeria’s pledge to justice, constitutional order, and the rule of law is genuine and not mere rhetoric, adding that it was time to “end this hubris now.”
Ezekwesili accused the National Assembly of spearheading a dangerous course that undermines both the rule of law and the country’s democracy.
She appealed to Nigerians to stand together against this constitutional violation, stressing that “six months of this crisis is already too many.”

In a memo addressed to the Senate, the judiciary, and the public, she warned that democracy perishes when “laws become weapons and lawmakers become serial lawbreakers.”
Citing the Constitution, she wrote: “The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a covenant between government and governed.
Article 6 establishes the judiciary as guardian of constitutional rights. Section 4 defines legislative power limits. Section 14 enshrines the rule of law as democracy’s foundation. These are binding obligations, not suggestions.”
