The Pilgrim Terminal at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, has undergone a major upgrade, with the facility now equipped with improved passenger amenities and enhanced security infrastructure.
The upgrade includes a 300-seat waiting area, modern VIP and VVIP lounges, free high-speed Wi-Fi, a fully air-conditioned mosque, and upgraded passenger screening and security systems.
The improvements were inspected on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Board, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, alongside FAAN Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku.

Keyamo also used the visit to unveil the first phase of FAAN’s Sustainable Waste Management Programme at MMIA, featuring colour-coded recycling bins to support waste segregation and recycling.
The minister commended FAAN management for the terminal upgrade and the sustainability initiative, urging the agency to maintain the pace of improvement.
He said the projects were consistent with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the broader effort to modernize Nigeria’s airport infrastructure and improve passenger experience.
The waste management programme is expected to be expanded to other airports nationwide as part of FAAN’s wider drive to promote more sustainable airport operations.
