Fall-out of LG poll: Lagos APC chiefs set for reconciliation

As a way of stemming growing disaffection in the Lagos chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), some elderly chieftains of the party are billed to meet on Tuesday with a view to appeasing aggrieved members.

The meeting, First News gathered, has been slated to hold in the home of a party chieftain, Dr. Oladipupo Okeyomi, to coincide with his birthday celebrations.
Findings revealed that many aggrieved APC members in Lagos were planning to leave the party in protest against what they described as imposition of candidates for the last local government elections.

According to a top party source, “the meeting is scheduled to appease some strong party members at the local government level, who have made up their minds to leave the party.

“Their annoyance is that their complaint that the selection process of candidates for the last local government was dictatorial, was shunned.”

The source, which craved anonymity, added that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been reaching out to the aggrieved APC members, asking them to defect, so they can have a level-playing ground to realise their dreams.

Okeyomi, hosting the politicians at his Ojokoro local council development area home, said the gathering would be “a family reunion of APC members”.

He said much as some party members were aggrieved, it was not enough for them to  defect “as our loyalty to the APC is irrevocable”.

Okeyomi, also known as Carry Go, had also contested the position of chairman in Ojokoro LCDA four consecutive times, but was unable to bear the party’s flag, owing to what his supporters described as “undue imposition from the top.”
