Fear and unrest spread across Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Wednesday, March 19, as local farmers staged a protest against the alleged killing of five individuals by suspected herdsmen at Aba Oyinbo in Akure North Local Government Area.
According to sources, the attackers raided the community in the early hours, indiscriminately opening fire on residents.
This incident follows a similar attack just two weeks ago, where at least 14 people were reportedly murdered by gunmen in four other communities—Ademekun, Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, and Alajido—all within the same local government area.

Outraged by the continued violence, demonstrators stormed the Governor’s Office, singing protest songs and urging Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to take immediate action to stop the killings.
One of the protesters, identified only as Jonah, condemned the ongoing attacks, claiming that the perpetrators were infiltrating the state from Edo.
“We are being killed, and nobody is doing anything to stop it. Akure North is under attack. We are farmers, not criminals. We are pleading with the governor, the police, the military, and Amotekun to intervene before more lives are lost,” he said.
By the time of this report, security personnel had arrived at the protest site to maintain order and prevent any further disruptions.
