Fatal Crash Claims Nine Lives on Katsina Highway

A tragic Sunday morning unfolded along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State, where a devastating crash claimed the lives of at least nine individuals.

Confirming the heart-wrenching incident, Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Aliyu Ma’aji, revealed that the accident involved a lone Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers.

Ma’aji stated, “Nine passengers died on the spot, while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
Preliminary findings pointed to “speeding and loss of control” as the culprits behind the catastrophe.

In response to the tragedy, the FRSC commander issued a stern caution to motorists, urging them to prioritize safety and shun reckless behaviors such as excessive speeding and overloading, particularly during festive seasons.

Despite the state government’s continuous efforts to enhance road infrastructure, he lamented that “reckless driving remains a major cause of fatal accidents in Katsina.”
