Fayemi Not Planning to Defect, Destabilise Party — Ekiti APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has debunked claims that former Governor Kayode Fayemi is plotting to destabilise the party or poach members through secret meetings.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, issued a statement on Sunday, July 20, dismissing the rumour as baseless and the work of mischief-makers.

“We are not perturbed. We are now in a season of propaganda, characterised by spewing of lies and telling half-truths to confuse the people,” Dipe said.

“Any busybody who yearns to know what is happening in our party is free to contact me as the spokesperson of the party and they would be reliably informed, rather than looking for gutter gists,” he added.

Dipe was responding to reports that Governor Biodun Oyebanji and APC leaders had rejected a stakeholders’ meeting allegedly convened by Fayemi to court members of the African Democratic Congress.

He rejected the idea entirely, saying the APC in Ekiti remains strong and focused on winning the next governorship election, aiming to break the record of producing a governor who will serve two consecutive terms.

He attributed the story to outside forces attempting to sow discord.

“Anything to the contrary is not emanating from within our party but being manufactured by some external forces,” Dipe said.

All leaders in the party, including Fayemi, are backing Governor Oyebanji’s second term bid,” Dipe said, adding that Fayemi wouldn’t destroy the party he helped build.

If the former governor was indeed convening any meetings, Dipe said it would be in support of the party’s goals.

He also said the APC welcomes groups endorsing President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji, as long as it helps consolidate the party’s grip on power.

“We are not gamblers. We are a focused party,” he said.

Dipe concluded with a warning to those spreading misinformation: “Busy bodies and interlopers can’t derail us. We’re not worried about what other parties are doing. Our focus is on delivering victory again.”
