Fayose rules out plan to attend reconciliation meeting with Makinde

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has debunked speculation that he plans to attend a meeting meant to reconcile him with the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.

Fayose and Makinde apparently have been in a battle for the control of the South-West Peoples Democratic Party. The battle had seen the opposition party in the region factionalised.

In efforts to unite the party in the South-West and have Fayose and Makinde reconciled, a former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola reportedly convened a peace meeting supposedly fixed for today (Friday).

But responding to the move, Fayose wrote on his Twitter handle, “My attention has been drawn to a publication that I will attend a reconciliation meeting by former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, today (Friday).

“Let me state clearly that I have no business with Prince Oyinlola’s so-called reconciliation.”

Meanwhile, the South-West PDP has called on the public to disregard the purported reconciliation meeting by Oyinlola, saying that he lacked the moral preserve to reconcile Makinde and Fayose.

The South-West Zonal Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP, Lere Olayinka, in a statement on Friday, said, “Our attention has been drawn to a publication in a newspaper that there will be a reconciliation meeting between Fayose and Governor Makinde at the instance of former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, today (Friday).

“To us, Prince Oyinlola is supposed to be Governor Seyi Makinde’s leader, but the reverse is the case now as he is painfully acting like Governor Makinde’s ‘appendage’ and also his contractor.

“Therefore, he has no moral preserve to be a peacemaker as peace cannot be achieved when insincere people who are self-seekers sit at the table as peacemakers.

“Most importantly, PDP was peaceful in the South-West before Prince Oyinlola returned from APC and committed and loyal leaders of the party in the zone will on their own, ensure that issues in the party are resolved.”
