The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced an inquiry into rising consumer complaints against Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), MTN Nigeria, and Air Peace Limited.

Ondaje Ijagwu, FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the investigations, scheduled for December 3rd, 4th, and 5th, aim to address poor service delivery, exploitative practices, and alleged consumer rights violations.

The FCCPC said GTB will be questioned over network failures that prevent customers from accessing funds or using banking applications.

MTN Nigeria will face scrutiny for complaints about undelivered data services, unexplained data depletion, and inadequate customer support.

Air Peace will respond to allegations of exploitative pricing, including significant increases in ticket costs for advance bookings on domestic routes.

Ijagwu stated that the inquiries are authorised under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, which empowers the Commission to investigate practices that harm consumer rights or create unfair competition.

“This action reflects the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding consumer rights, fostering a fair marketplace, and ensuring accountability across all sectors,” the statement read.

The companies are expected to provide detailed responses during their hearings, enabling the FCCPC to address concerns and enforce compliance promptly.

Consumers have been encouraged to report poor services or exploitative practices through the Commission’s official channels.
