FCTA demolishes 500 homes, including churches in Zaudna

Over 500 homes, places of worship, and warehouses, among other buildings, were destroyed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in the Zaudna community’s land swap infrastructure model corridor (AMAC).

Muktar Galadima, the Head of Development Control, informed journalists that between last Friday and yesterday, more than 500 homes, warehouses, and places of worship were taken out.

According to him, the destruction was part of an ongoing effort to remove unauthorized constructions from the infrastructure corridor.

Only indigenous people, according to Galadima, will be eligible for compensation and paid, adding that non-indigenous people have been advised against purchasing land from locals.

Comrade Ikharo Attah, the senior special assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to the FCT minister, further reaffirmed that the compensation is only intended for residents of Abuja.

He said, “This is part of our activities around this district to clear the encroachment on the land swap infrastructure model, despite the rain. We want to appeal to people to understand that ‘illegality remains illegality.

“We are not disobedient to the creator, because when we came here and demolished worship centres, people cried and said we are disobedient to the creator, anything illegal is wrong and we are bound to remove them.

“There is no compensation at all for all the affected structures, because only non-indigenes live there, so there is no compensation earmarked at all. The village chiefs are all here even though the people allegedly said they sold the land to them.”
