FCTA Resolves 10 Strike Demands, Talks Continue

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has disclosed that it has successfully resolved 10 out of the 14 issues presented by workers currently on strike, while discussions continue on the four outstanding demands.

This was made known in a statement released on Monday, the 19th of January, 2026, by the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

He explained that the administration has engaged union leaders in several rounds of talks, including meetings held over the weekend, aimed at finding lasting solutions to the workers’ concerns.

According to the statement, the FCTA clarified that not all workers are participating in the strike, noting that some groups, such as members of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria, have distanced themselves from the industrial action. The administration stressed that such workers should be granted unhindered access to their offices to perform their official responsibilities.

The statement also revealed that the Association of Resident Doctors in the FCT (ARD-FCTA) praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his “exemplary leadership,” particularly in ensuring the settlement of 13 months’ hazard allowance arrears alongside one month’s wage award.

It further highlighted that several major demands have already been fulfilled. These include the settlement of five months’ outstanding wage award, full payment of 13 months’ hazard allowance, as well as 22 months’ rural allowance owed to health workers.

In addition, approval has been granted for the payment of promotion arrears amounting to N286,166,772.46 for 724 officers across 24 Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDAs), with processing already underway.

The administration confirmed that matters relating to the extension of tenure for retired directors and permanent secretaries have been settled, assuring that all actions will strictly adhere to Public Service Rules.

Furthermore, directives have been issued to the Office of the Head of Service to address staff training and retraining requirements.

The statement added that other unresolved matters, including the remittance of National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions and pension contributions, are currently being handled by a committee led by workers.

It also noted that concerns surrounding the promotion examination process and the continued stay of overseeing directors are under review, with expectations that outcomes from the 2023 and 2024 promotion exercises will conclusively resolve the issues.

Olayinka urged union leaders involved in the strike to continue engaging through dialogue, reiterating that the FCTA remains firmly committed to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of its workforce.
