Fears have gripped residents of Fagba, Iju-Ishaga in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State as Hausa and Yoruba youths have for days now been engaged in violence in the area.
The violence which followed the £EndSARS protest, it was learnt, had resulted in the burning of houses and other properties with several people injured.
It was gathered that the violence started after an attack on some trucks conveying livestock belonging to some Hausa men and the carting away of some of the animals.
The incidents was said to have led to a reprisal attack on some Yoruba people in the area by Hausa youths.
A resident, Lateef Lawal, told 1stnewsonline.com, “I learnt two trucks belonging to Hausa men were hijacked by hoodlums, and that caused a crisis between Hausa and Yoruba youths.”
Another resident, Azeez, explained, “We are currently locked indoors because of the unrest. Everywhere is boiling, there’s gunshots and house burning.”
Meanwhile, unconfirmed report said one person had been killed in the crisis with houses burnt.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, said policemen have been drafted to the area to restore peace.
According to him, “The police are on top of the situation. The crisis has an ethnic coloration. Two trucks belonging to the Hausa people were attacked and that led to the crisis.
“We have been talking to the Hausa people for peace to reign, but these hoodlums are still disturbing them and the Hausa, in defence, are trying to fight back. But we are on top of the situation to restore peace and normality.”
