The Jigawa government has ordered a shutdown of all public primary and secondary schools in the state over fear of attacks.
A report by Channels Television quoted the state Commissioner of Education, Lawal Yunusa, to have, while confirming the development in Dutse the state capital. said the move followed an intelligence report.
“An intelligence report was received by the state government that states, especially with international borders, are prone to attacks.
“Upon receiving this information we ordered the closure of schools to avoid any surprise. Most of the schools are done with their examinations.
“The only students writing examinations are the SSS2 students who are writing mock examinations and only Civic Education and the Hausa language are left to be concluded. Then the pupils write internal examinations which the school can reschedule,” the commissioner was quoted to have said.
It was learnt that following the order, boarding students packed their luggages and headed to their parent’s homes while many others were stranded as the closure was sudden.
The commissioner was reported to have, when asked if the order applies to private schools and higher institutions, said that the state government had informed them about the threat “but we allow them to close on their own time”.
