The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Bola Tinubu, has approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill with a proposed aggregate expenditure of ₦58.47 trillion.
The approval was granted during the council’s meeting in Abuja on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The proposed spending plan represents a six percent increase over the 2025 budget estimate, reflecting the administration’s intention to consolidate ongoing economic reforms while sustaining government operations in the 2026 fiscal year.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu, confirmed the council’s decision and said the budget framework would be transmitted to the National Assembly for legislative consideration.

Yakubu said the 2026 budget was structured to support the government’s medium-term fiscal objectives, including economic stability, infrastructure development and improved public service delivery.
He added that detailed breakdowns of the proposal, including revenue projections, deficit financing and sectoral allocations, would be unveiled during the formal presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly.
