National Assembly Receives Tinubu for 2026 Budget Presentation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja on Friday, December 19, 2025, to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The submission marks the formal presentation of the government’s fiscal plan for the coming year to lawmakers for review and approval.

Accredited members were directed to report by 11:00 a.m., with access to the National Assembly complex restricted for security reasons.

The 2026 budget, based on the recently approved 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper, is projected at approximately ₦54.46 trillion.

This includes retained revenue of about ₦34.33 trillion and new borrowings estimated at ₦17.88 trillion, reflecting the government’s revenue assumptions, macroeconomic outlook, and spending priorities.

The presentation aligns Nigeria’s fiscal planning with a calendar-year cycle and legislative expectations, following the Senate’s approval of the MTEF, which paved the way for the Appropriation Bill to be laid before the legislature.
