The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a seamless and well-structured retirement process for civil servants, promising continuous support before and after their service.
Speaking at the second edition of the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) Executive Prospective Retirees Conference, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Didi Walson-Jack, emphasized the government’s dedication to preparing public servants for life beyond active duty.
The conference, organized in collaboration with JFK Abiona Consultancy Limited, was aimed at civil servants on Salary Grade Levels 14–17 who are within two years of retirement.
Walson-Jack highlighted that the initiative aligns with Pillar Six of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP 25), which focuses on enhanced staff welfare.
To facilitate a smooth transition, she outlined various pre-retirement programs, including:
Agripreneurship Programme – Supporting retirees in agriculture-based ventures.
Business Start-Up and Entrepreneurship Programmes – Providing training for entrepreneurial success.
She urged civil servants to plan for retirement proactively, covering aspects such as financial planning, health and wellness, and post-retirement opportunities.
“Retirement is not an end but a new beginning filled with opportunities,” Walson-Jack stated.
Beyond career transition training, the government is implementing initiatives such as affordable housing, health insurance, cooperative societies, and reintegration programs to ensure retirees’ well-being.

Permanent Secretary of the Service Welfare Office, Oyekunle Patience Nwakuso, emphasized that the conference is a key part of the Federal Civil Service Entrepreneurship Programme, designed to equip retirees with vital skills for life after service.

Blockchain Economy Technology and Business Strategy
Notable speakers at the event included leadership expert Fela Durotoye, blockchain strategist Toobore Olumoye, and financial consultant Njideka Adaego Ononuju.
With this initiative, the federal government continues to demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of civil servants, ensuring they transition into retirement with confidence and stability.
