A critical meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced in Abuja.
The meeting, held at the Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education, brings together key stakeholders in an effort to prevent another nationwide strike in public universities.
ASUU’s delegation is led by its current president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, and includes former ASUU presidents, headed by the immediate past president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi. The union recently issued a threat to strike over the Federal Government’s alleged failure to fulfill its previous commitments.
On the government’s side, the Minister of Education, along with other top management staff from the Federal Ministry of Education, are participating in the talks.
The meeting’s primary objective is to address ASUU’s concerns and avert a potential disruption of academic activities across the country.
Both parties are expected to negotiate on outstanding issues, with the hope of reaching an agreement that will keep university campuses open and functioning.
The outcome of this meeting will be closely watched by students, parents, and the wider public, as the prospect of another strike looms over the nation’s higher education system.
