FG Postpones NAFEST 2025, Cites Rising Insecurity

The Federal Government has postponed the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) 2025, which was scheduled to begin November 22, 2025, in Enugu, citing rising insecurity across the country.

In a statement, the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism & the Creative Economy said the decision was taken after a careful assessment of the “national mood” and recent security incidents that have affected several communities.

The ministry emphasized that the postponement is also an act of solidarity with families and communities affected by insecurity.

“While we remain committed to celebrating Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, we cannot proceed with a festival of this scale while our people are facing distress,” the ministry said.

A new date for the festival will be announced after consultations with state governments, cultural institutions, and security agencies.

NAFEST 2025 was expected to bring together participants from over 28 states, showcasing Nigeria’s diversity through music, dance, crafts, and other cultural expressions.

Enugu State had mobilized a multi-layered security plan involving police, military, and local vigilante groups to ensure the safety of attendees.

Cultural experts say the postponement, though disappointing, underscores the reality of the country’s security challenges.

“NAFEST is more than a festival; it is a symbol of national unity. Postponing it in these circumstances shows sensitivity and responsibility,” said a cultural analyst.

While the delay may impact local businesses and participants who had planned to attend, organizers have pledged to work quickly to reschedule the festival and ensure a safe and memorable event for all.
