FG Relaunches Mass Terror Trials, Over 400 Suspects Arraigned

The Federal Government on Monday, June 15, 2026, began a fresh round of mass trials for suspected terrorists at the Federal High Court in Abuja, in an expanded effort to fast-track terrorism prosecutions and clear a backlog of cases.

More than 400 defendants are scheduled to be arraigned within the week-long exercise, appearing in batches before different judges sitting simultaneously across various courtrooms.

The proceedings are being handled by Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, James Omotosho, Obiora Egwuatu, and Ekerete Akpan.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, is leading the prosecution, while the Director-General of the Legal Aid Council, Aliyu Abubakar, is coordinating the defence for the accused persons.

Before Justice Emeka Nwite, 58 suspects were listed for arraignment, including Abba Bukar, Abba Manye, Gujja Mala Bukar, Brem Gonimi, Isa Mohammed, Lawali Dashiri Danke, Yau Tukur, also known as Mai-Auduga, and Bello Liman, also called Bell Doctor.

The current phase continues the government’s ongoing mass trial programme aimed at accelerating justice in terrorism-related cases.

In the previous round held between April 7 and April 10, 2026, about 500 suspects were arraigned in Abuja, an exercise earlier described as phase nine of the initiative.

Authorities say the process is designed to reduce delays in terrorism trials and strengthen the handling of cases linked to insurgent and armed criminal networks across the country.
