The Federal Government has released ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions to address infrastructure gaps and improve learning conditions across the country.

The funding, provided under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund, covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education.

The Federal Ministry of Finance announced the disbursement in a statement issued on Sunday, October 25, by its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie.

Universities will receive ₦28.5 billion, while polytechnics have been earmarked ₦5.8 billion and colleges of education ₦4.7 billion.

The ministry said the intervention was designed to help public institutions tackle longstanding infrastructure problems and support the implementation of agreements between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

“The intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the needs of public universities and support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.”

According to the ministry, the newly released funds will enable beneficiary institutions to begin or continue approved projects.

“The funds are expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or advance approved projects addressing critical infrastructure and other identified institutional needs, with the overall objective of strengthening the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria,” it added.

The government said the finance and education ministries would work with beneficiary institutions to ensure the money delivers tangible results.

It stressed that effective coordination and proper use of the funds would be essential to improving infrastructure, strengthening institutional capacity and creating better learning environments for students and academic staff.
