The Federal Government has commenced the review of applications for Nigerian citizenship submitted by 170 foreign nationals, according to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The minister disclosed this late Monday via his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the Citizenship Advisory Committee is currently scrutinizing the applications before forwarding its recommendations to President Bola Tinubu for final approval.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the process represents a critical test of integrity for public officials involved and assured Nigerians that due diligence remains the cornerstone of the review exercise.
“Citizenship of the biggest black nation on earth is a valuable asset that demands careful consideration,” the minister wrote. “We will uphold the trust placed in us by Nigerians and ensure that integrity and proven character remain our guiding principles.”

He explained that the Citizenship Advisory Committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Immigration Service, among others.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening national institutions and promoting Nigeria as a nation of opportunity and prosperity.
“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our government will continue to position Nigeria as a destination of interest and progress for all,” he added.
