The Federal Government has honoured 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Yobe, who emerged as the World’s Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.
Nafisa outperformed more than 20,000 contestants from 69 countries, including native English speakers, to clinch the top position in her category at the competition which took place in August 2025.
At a reception in Abuja, the Ministry of Education presented Nafisa with a N200,000 cash award, describing her victory as a national milestone and an inspiration for other students. Education Minister, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and Minister of State, Prof. Suiwaba Sa’id Ahmed, commended her performance and said it reflects the country’s progress in nurturing globally competitive students.
The ministers also acknowledged the support of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, as well as her teachers and family, noting that sustained investment in education was critical to such achievements.
TeenEagle is a UK-accredited international competition organised annually by Oscar Education for students aged 8 to 18.
It features contests in spelling, debate, writing, receptive skills and persuasive speaking, and has grown since 2021 to attract tens of thousands of participants from more than 70 countries.

In 2023, the school’s students secured four gold, eleven silver, and fourteen bronze medals.
In the 2025 edition, alongside Nafisa’s victory, NTIC students won multiple medals and awards, including best in debate, spelling bee and charisma.
The Atiku Abubakar Foundation has since awarded Nafisa and two other Yobe students, Rukkaya Muhammad and Khadija Kashim Kalli, full scholarships covering their secondary and university education.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the government would continue to encourage outstanding students with policies and incentives aimed at building an education system capable of competing at international levels.
