The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has taken over a 753-unit estate in Abuja, previously owned by the embattled ex-Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) handed over the property on the 20th of May, 2025, to the ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
Spokesman Salisu Haiba confirmed that Minister Ahmed Dangiwa received the estate and praised the EFCC for recovering it.
“The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has taken delivery of the 753 Housing Units Abuja housing estate of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” the statement said.
“This marks a significant milestone in our collective determination to ensure that recovered assets are put to productive use in ways that directly benefit the Nigerian people. The housing estate recovered from the former Governor of the Central Bank is a case in point.”
Dangiwa said the ministry and EFCC will conduct a joint inspection to check the condition of the buildings.

They plan to carry out structural and safety assessments and ensure the estate is habitable. The ministry will then sell the units through both public and government channels.
He explained that a competitive and open process will guide public sales. Advertisements will run nationwide, and interested Nigerians can apply through the Renewed Hope Portal.
EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede stressed the importance of transparency.
“It is important for us to demonstrate to Nigerians that whatever proceeds of crime that we have recovered in the course of our work, the application of that will be made transparent to Nigerians so that we will not allow looted assets to be looted again,” he said.
