World football governing body FIFA is reportedly planning to increase the prize money allocated to participating nations at the FIFA World Cup, according to a report by The New York Times.
Under the current structure, each of the 48 teams competing in the expanded tournament receives a minimum of $10.5 million, while the eventual winner takes home $50 million.
However, these figures are expected to rise significantly as FIFA anticipates generating more than $11 billion in revenue from the global showpiece.
The proposed increase reflects the growing commercial success of the World Cup, which continues to attract massive global audiences, sponsorship deals, and broadcasting rights agreements.

If approved, the move would further boost financial incentives for participating countries and reinforce the tournament’s status as the most lucrative competition in international football.
FIFA has yet to make an official announcement on the revised prize structure, but discussions are believed to be ongoing as preparations continue for the next edition of the tournament.
