In Group B of the 9th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals, which will take place in the summer of 2023, Nigeria will compete against co-hosts Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland.
This came after the draw ceremony on Saturday in Auckland/Tâmaki Makaurau.
Nigeria will thus face Canada in her opening game of the competition, which will include 32 teams and be played in nine cities (five in Australia and four in New Zealand), making it the largest FIFA Women’s World Cup since it began in China in 1991.
Joint-hosts in Group A, New Zealand will compete against Switzerland, Norway, and the Philippines.
The only seven nations to have participated in every FIFA Women’s World Cup between China 1991 and France 2019 were Nigeria, the United States of America, Brazil, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Japan.
Six months ago, the Falcons were on a tour to Canada where they competed in two games against the Olympic champions, losing one game narrowly and drawing the other.
