Headless bodies numbering about 15 were discovered at Five Miles area in the outskirts of Calabar on Tuesday.
Residents at the scene confirmed that the bodies were that of men and women. They were dumped in a valley by a double carriageway under construction.
It was learnt that the headless bodies were discovered by some farmers who later raised an alarm before a crowd gathered at the scene.
“Some persons may have brought these corpses in a vehicle and dumped them here last night,” a resident said.
Another resident, Nsikak Etim, at the scene said, “I couldn’t count the number of bodies dumped there because of the difficult terrain.”
The scene of the incident is not far from police and security agents’ checkpoints on the Calabar-Odukpani highway.

The corpses were later removed under the supervision of policemen.
