Former Super Eagles winger and current Enyimba head coach, Finidi George, has shed light on his strained relationship with Nigeria’s star striker, Victor Osimhen.
The friction between the two reportedly started after Osimhen took offense to comments allegedly made by George.
In a recent interview, Finidi clarified the situation, expressing his disappointment over Osimhen’s response.
According to him, Osimhen reacted negatively to remarks he believed George made about him, despite the fact that George had never directly spoken about the striker in an interview.
“I sent him a message that it was not the best way, just someone telling you that coach said something and you’re talking about me like I said it in an interview,” Finidi stated.
“I didn’t get his response from that point, so I moved on.”
The fallout has raised concerns about the relationship between one of Nigeria’s football legends and the current face of the Super Eagles attack.
Osimhen, who plays for Napoli, has been a key figure for both his club and country, while Finidi remains an influential figure in Nigerian football both as a former player and coach.
As the situation stands, it appears that neither side has taken further steps to resolve the issue, but George’s remarks suggest he has put the matter behind him.
Whether Osimhen will respond or whether this will impact the national team dynamics remains to be seen.
This incident highlights the challenges that can arise between different generations of football figures, especially in a country with a rich footballing tradition like Nigeria.
